News For Biloxi Beach Closures

Biloxi fall fishing 2019

Biloxi Beach and Fishing Report

Here’s the latest on beach closures and the algae bloom. The fact is yes the beaches are closed in south Mississippi. Another fact, I have not seen any algae blooms in the water, especially where we fish. Authorities are advising not to eat the fish caught in those areas.

The algae bloom is only affecting a couple of hundred yards of the coastline. It is also affecting harbors and Marina. I have lived here on the coast all my life, I have never fished those areas. In fact you can’t fish The Harbours or Marina.

The water is extremely shallow within the first hundred yards of the coastline. Those areas see very little tide movement therefor stagnant water is susceptible to algae blooms.

We are still fishing in the Mississippi sound and Mississippi Barrier Islands. Ship Island and Horn Island have been on fire!

The Mississippi sound and the Biloxi Bay are still have good fish. We are still catching plenty of redfish, white trout, some speckled trout, flounder, black drum and more. This fall will bring back the migration of Cobia. The chance to catch cobia for August September and October are looking good.

Then there’s this, vibrio. It is known as flesh-eating bacteria. That bacteria has been in the Gulf waters since the gulf was born. If you have a good immune system then you are at a very slight risk.

If you haven’t finished this year in south Mississippi, August is your opportunity. Let’s not forget about September and October, those months to provide awesome fishing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
